The Caterpillars of this species are mottled brown with three small black squares on each abdominal segment.

The adult moth is brown with wings each having an indistinct subterminal pale arc sometimes containing black spots, and two indistinct dark bands parallel to that arc.

At rest the wings are held flat. The wingspan is about 3 cms.

The eggs are oval with a fine embossed pattern of serrated ridges. Initially they are yellow, but they turn red as hatching approaches.
