This Caterpillar feeds on the flowers and developing fruit of :

  • Lantana ( Lantana camara, VERBENACEAE ).

The Caterpillar was introduced deliberately in 1914 into Australia to try to control this weed.

The adult moth is brown with light and dark patches on the fore wings, and a fringe of hairs along the back of each hind wing. The moth has a wingspan of about 1.5 cms. It is a native to Mexico, but was introduced into Hawaii to try to control the Lantana there. The species is now also well established in New South Wales and Queensland.
